So I haven’t actually read too many mermaid books simply because most of them don’t seem too interesting. I read the synopsis of Sink and was immediately hooked. And I’m glad to say that Sink was a very good mermaid read!

Pauline is the main character and a mermaid. She is also such a great character to read from. She is the youngest of three sisters and has always felt somewhat out of place. She isn’t quite sure if she is the only one that believes that things could be different. I enjoyed watching her grow and become more confident in herself throughout the journey. She’s incredibly brave and despite having a terrible mother, is still able to do what is right.

Eddie was Pauline’s love interest but also a nice addition to this story. I definitely enjoyed his fun and caring personality. According to the ocean, Pauline and Eddie were a perfect match for each other and I thought so as well! :) Eddie was put into a confusing and rather scary situation but he took it all in stride and supported Pauline and her choices all the way. And Pauline was so selfless when it came to Eddie. His protection and well-being were always at the front of her mind.

There were a few other mermaid friends including one pretty cool dolphin. :) There was also a legendary city that was introduced to Pauline and Eddie which they made their way to. I liked seeing how one mermaid city was different than the one that Pauline had grown up in.

Aside from the characters, I thought there were certain parts of the story that were unique and intriguing. These mermaids weren’t just simply mermaids. They each had their own unique powers. And the kingdom of Artagatis did not have one single merman around! The reason for this is quite intriguing like I said earlier.

The ending was where the action definitely picked up and it was pretty awesome to see these strong and brave mermaids fight for what they believed in. All in all, Sink was a great first book in this fun and intriguing mermaid series. I can’t wait to see what is next for these sisters and their friends!
